Flash Fiction: End of the World

Good morning.

The other day I had this crazy dream that scientists had control of the planets.  Somehow we had found a way to control gravity and its pull.  It went wrong.  We put Jupiter on a collision course for the Sun.  This would destroy Earth.

I turned it into a flash fiction with 3 – 100 word parts.

When the creatures came, Kal was at a local park.  He held the ring box in his hands.  He was alone.

It was late and he had just gotten to his car when there was a loud hum.  Lights shone from above.  Kal got out of the car and saw them.

They were wonderful.  They were here for a reason.

He agreed to help them.  He had nothing on this world worth staying for.

They chose him and he rose in rank.  No longer the bottom intern.  She could not ignore him now.

Megan would be his.

Kal walked into the communications room.  Suites were yelling into phones and lab coats panicked.  A woman sobbed and Kal hid a smile.   He did his part well.

No one respected him before the Aliens came.  They chose Kal as the Voice.

Jones, a suit, ran up with Megan close behind him.

“Sir what do we do?” He asked Kal, checking his watch. “We have three hours before the planets collide with the sun.  Earth will be destroyed.  What do they want?”

Kal looked at Jones, barely disguising the contempt.  “They want us to die you fool.”

He turned away.

The park was deserted.  People hid in their homes hoping the end was not coming.

It was fitting for Kal to return here.  Soon the aliens would take him away from this wretched planet.  Soon Megan would be dead.  She deserved it for rejecting him again.  For laughing at him.

The aliens came.

“I am ready to go” Kal said.  One alien looked at him and touched his head.  Kal was frozen in position.  It turned away and vanished.

“Don’t leave me!” Kal screamed as the aliens vanished.

The sun exploded in the sky above him.

Earth was no more.

I dunno, seems like Earth being taken out was a pretty final ending. Not gonna lie, this Flash Fiction thing is fun!

Okay, well yes. I meant more back story. What’s going on here? I need more. 😉 Flash fiction is fun though! 😉

I changed the order of the sections. I put the arrival in the beginning to give some back story in a better place.

I don’t like aliens much, I find them creepy so don’t expect much expansion on this. Just something fun to post.

I think that works much better. 🙂

I understand not writing about aliens. They don’t freak me out but zombies do. Oddly enough, I’m writing a zombie short story for Halloween. 😉

You need to take little writing jaunts like this and expand on them. Keep a little file somewhere. It might turn into something some day.

Oh I do. Got a flash drive that has everything kept together and a lot of these FF pieces may end up expanded but for now this is a lot of fun to just get some writing out there.

I really like these little snippets. Keep them handy. You may have the makings of a novella in there. I’d read the finished product. Very intriguing.

Thank you. Funny thing, I love reading science fiction but never liked to write about it. Who knows?
